Current Members
Adrian A. Dias Sánchez PhD Student
Adrian is studying genetic variation in Dermacentor ticks.
Chulantha Diyes PhD Student
Chulantha is studying questions related to survival of immature stages of Dermacentor andersoni and Dermacentor variabilis, and the bacteria associated with their microbiomes.
Sebastian Espinoza-Ulloa PhD student (Co-supervised by José Andrés)
Sebastian is constructing the whole genome of one species of the mockingbird, Mimus melanotis. He will then carry out additional genomic analyses to answer evolutionary, ecological and conservation questions relating to the mockingbirds (Mimus spp.) of the Galapagos Archipelago.
Jessica Thoroughgood PhD Student
Jessica is using molecular tools to identify fleas on ground squirrels from 3 localities in southern Saskatchewan. She is also comparing the bacterial diversity in their microbiomes.
Matt Yunik PhD Student
Matt is a vector ecologist currently working on Canadian ticks (Ixodidae: Dermacentor). He is amazes by how these critters can be so successful, tolerating a wide range of environmental conditions and having to rely on hosts for food and transport. He is conducting molecular and field studies looking at interactions with their environment, and the microorganisms that reside in them.
