Department of History History of Medicine

I hold a Ph.D. in Indigenous history from the University of Saskatchewan. Originally from the southern tip of the Italian peninsula, I have authored a book and article on ergotism in the ancient Mediterranean world. Additionally, I have written an ethnohistory of the 'Ndrangheta, a specific mafia type in my region. I am a heterosexual, white settler from the southern Italian working class. For my Ph.D. dissertation on tobacco in historical consciousness, I participated in the Stó:lō Ethnohistory Field School. Since 2019, I have worked as a contract historical researcher and video maker/editor for the Stó:lō Nation, Matsqui, Seabird Island, Squiala, Tzeachten (Skowkale, Yakweakwioose), and Homalco First Nations. From 2020, I have been a sessional instructor at the UFV. Since August 2023, I have been a tenure-track assistant professor at the UFV, teaching courses on the Indigenous-Newcomer relation in Canada, particularly focusing on the history of alcohol and tobacco in Indigenous Canada.
