Previous work completed in Department of History, University of Saskatchewan: MA thesis – “The Last Asylum: Experiencing the Weyburn Mental Hospital, 1921-1939” (2016)
My work concerns the history of madness and its institutions in colonial and frontier settings - with a focus on Western Canada in the early 20th century. After completing my MA thesis at the U of S, I co-authored (with Erika Dyck and others) the book Managing Madness: Weyburn Mental Hospital and the Transformation of Psychiatric Care in Canada, which was awarded the Canadian Historical Association’s Clio Prize for Prairie History in 2018. My work on the history of eugenics in Saskatchewan was published as part of the collection, Eugenics at the Edges of Empire: New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and South Africa.
