My research interests focus on the neurobiology of conditioned fear and stress. These interests deal primarily with the amygdalae’s role in the reinstatement and extinction of fear and I am particularly interested in how dopamine and glutamate receptors mediate the synaptic processes that facilitate fear learning and expression. In Dr Howland’s lab, I am currently investigating the impact of prenatal infections on object recognition memory, fear conditioning, and fear-extinction learning.

I’m interested in the role of inflammation during pregnancy and how this can alter the brain development of offspring and may predispose them to neurodevelopment disorders, such as schizophrenia and autism. Also, I’m interested in how these changes can be prevented or managed with novel therapeutic strategies.
