Marlis Merry is a PhD student in the School of Environment and Sustainability, supervised by Dr. Maureen Reed. She also works as Program Manager for TRANSECTS (TRANSdisciplinary Education Collaboration for Transformations in Sustainability), a transdisciplinary research training program and inclusive community of practice that supports early‑career researchers and practitioners in becoming the next generation of sustainability change‑makers through educational and professional development pathways.
Since 2022, Marlis has enjoyed her role as Program Manager and was honoured to represent TRANSECTS at the 2025 QS Reimagine Education Awards, where the program received Gold in the Sustainability in Education: Literacy category. Her doctoral research will focus on transdisciplinary educational design and evaluation, and she will support the 2027 TRANSECTS Learning Labs.
Marlis holds a master’s degree in Sustainability, with a focus on Regenerative Sustainability, from the University of Saskatchewan, and a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of British Columbia, with a concentration in Economics and Environmental Studies. Her professional interests are grounded in sustainable development, environmental management, climate action, and education. Outside of work, she is happiest when spending time outdoors with her partner and her dog, Peaches.
