The PROGRESS lab goes to Treaty Day at Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation
May 16 was Treaty Day and several students and faculty from SENS and the PROGRESS Lab took the opportunity to visit and introduce themselves and their research to residents of Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation.
The Nation had many information booths set up in the Arena to introduce locals and visitors to the services they provide – from Land Management to Nursing. Mr. Alfred Gamble introduced students to the crowd and also took them on a tour of the community garden. Students also took the opportunity to meet members of the First Nation one-on-one. SENS and Beardy’s has a memorandum of understanding and a shared commitment to conducting useful research together. We look forward to working with the First Nation and sharing in its future development and adaptation.
