Dr. Jim Robson

I'm an environmental social scientist and an Associate Professor in Human Dimensions of Sustainability at the School of Environment and Sustainability. I work in rural community settings in Latin America and Canada, where I learn how local and Indigenous peoples self-organize to collectively enhance their land management, territorial governance, and environmental stewardship, and try in some small way to support them in these efforts. My research also focuses on tracking changes in commons regimes, human migration and the environment, the role of youth in community-based governance, and local approaches to biodiversity conservation.

Alongside Dr. Maureen Reed, I hold the UNESCO Chair in Biocultural Diversity, Sustainability, Reconciliation, and Renewal. I also serve as the Canada Co-director for the Transdisciplinary Education Collaboration for Transformations in Sustainability (TRANSECTS).
