El pasado 15 de noviembre tuve la oportunidad de realizar el último método de recolección de información de mi investigación. El encuentro se llevó a cabo en Yondó, Antioquia, y reunió a once líderes comunitarios y protectores ambientales que hacen parte de la COAM (Coordinadora Ambiental) de la Zona de Reserva Campesina del Valle del Río Cimitarra, ubicada en el Magdalena Medio colombiano.
Fue un espacio enriquecedor donde conversamos sobre los aportes del campesinado a la protección ambiental y la construcción de paz, así como los retos que enfrentan día a día en su labor. Las voces campesinas nos recordaron que la defensa del territorio y de la naturaleza está profundamente ligada a la posibilidad de construir una paz duradera en contextos marcados por conflictos territoriales.
On November 15, I had the opportunity to carry out the final data collection method for my research. The meeting took place in Yondó, Antioquia and brought together eleven community leaders and environmental protectors who are part of the Environmental Coordinator (COAM) of the Cimitarra River Valley Campesina Reserve Zone, located in the Magdalena Medio region of Colombia.
 
The focus group/workshop was an enriching space where we discussed the contributions of rural communities to environmental protection and peacebuilding, as well as the challenges they face in their daily work. The voices of rural communities reminded us that the defence of the territory and nature is deeply linked to the possibility of building lasting peace in contexts marked by territorial conflicts.

Objetivo general de la actividad:
Reflexionar colectivamente sobre la participación del campesinado en la protección ambiental y la construcción de paz en zonas rurales afectadas por conflictos territoriales.
Objetivos específicos:
  • Profundizar en las percepciones sobre la relación entre territorio, paz y naturaleza.
  • Identificar aportes del campesinado a la protección ambiental y la construcción de paz.
  • Reconocer actores e instituciones que influyen —positiva o negativamente— en las iniciativas campesinas.
  • Identificar oportunidades y fortalezas para avanzar hacia una paz territorial con enfoque ambiental.
Este encuentro no solo aportó insumos valiosos para la investigación, sino que también abrió un espacio de diálogo donde la experiencia campesina se convierte en guía y horizonte para pensar en alternativas de paz con justicia social y ambiental.
Main objective of the focus group/workshop:
 
To reflect collectively on the participation of rural communities in environmental protection and peacebuilding in rural areas affected by territorial conflicts.
 
Specific objectives:
  • To deepen the perceptions of the relationship between territory, peace, and nature.
  • To identify the contributions made by rural communities to environmental protection and peacebuilding.
  • To recognize the actors and institutions that influence —positively or negatively— campesino initiatives.
  • To identify the opportunities and strengths to advance towards territorial peace with an environmental focus.
This meeting provided valuable input for research and opened a space for dialogue where the campesino experience became a guide and pathway for thinking about alternatives for peace that include social and environmental justice.
