PhD Student
Hansanee Fernando is a PhD student at the Agronomic Crop Imaging Lab. She was born and raised in Sri Lanka and moved to Canada for her Master's in Plant Sciences from the University of Saskatchewan. Her Master's project involved within-season yield prediction for canola using remotely sensed and quantified flowering information. She is passionate about exploring open-source remote sensing and machine learning techniques for advancing and supporting agricultural decision-making. Her current PhD project involves using radar and optical satellite imagery for real-time mapping of canola growth stages and estimating the yield potential progressively throughout the season. Outside of school work, she is an avid fan of fantasy fiction novels and occasionally indulges in hobby baking.
