Agronomic Crop Imaging
Sandesh Neupane is a PhD candidate, co-supervised by Dr. Steve Shirtliffe and Dr. Kirstin Bett. His research focuses on the integration of plant phenomics and genomics with lentils as the primary crop of study. Sandesh began his PhD after working as a research assistant at the Department of Plant Sciences, U of S, where he collaborated with a diverse team comprising breeders, agronomists, bioinformaticians, and computer scientists. Their goal was to incorporate cutting-edge technologies, particularly image-based phenotyping, into crop breeding efforts. In his current research at the Agronomic Crop Imaging (ACI) lab, Sandesh aims to further explore crop imaging techniques and their application in enhancing plant breeding methodologies. He is skilled in fieldwork and data wrangling and visualization, which he brings to his academic pursuits. Prior to his endeavors in Canada, Sandesh spent several years conducting agricultural research in Nepal, where he focused on collecting and evaluating local crop diversity on farms.
