Brief Bio

Afzal received Ph.D. in molecular microbiology from the School of Science and Technology at Nottingham Trent University in England in 2009. He was a postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Christine Szymanski at the University of Alberta, where he studied the potential of bacteriophages in detection and biocontrol of bacterial pathogens. Since 2013, Afzal has worked on the University of Saskatchewan campus, first at Agriculture and Agrifood Canada, and then at the teaching laboratories in the Departments of Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Pathology, and Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology.
