FSN I. 1. 2. Reginn, fóstri Helga ok Hróars, kom þeim undan ok út í ey til Vífils karls; hörmuðu þeir mjök skaðann. Sagði Reginn þá mundi fokit í flest skjól, ef Vífill gæti eigi geymt þá fyrir Fróða konungi.
HSK 1. Regin insists that Vifil hide Helgi and Hroar:
2. Helgi and Hroar's foster father, Regin, helped the boys escape to Vifil on his island. They mourned their loss deeply, and Regin said that, if Vifil were unable to hide the boys from King Frodi, 'then all places of shelter will be filled with snow'.

ÍOS II. 79. REIP VIÐ RAMMAN ER REIP AÐ DRAGA "við mikla öðugleika er að etja, við erfiðan andstæðing er að fást". Orðtakið kemur nokkrum sinnum fyrir í fornritum, sbr. t. d.: "Við ramman mun reip at draga", segir Gunnhildr, "ok leyfið þér honum at fara sem honum gegnir bezt". ÍF XII, 20, sbr. enn fremur VIII, 122, FMS II, 107, FAS I, 4. Þess má geta, að orðtakið kemur fyrir í tveimur gervum hjá Saxo (SAXO LIB V, 119; XII, 333 (Kbh. 1931). HSK 3. When Heid, the seeress, wants to quit speaking upon being bribed by Signy:
7. The king replied, 'If you do not choose more wisely, you will be tortured into speaking. Here among so many people, I still do not understand any better than previously what you are saying. And why is Signy not in her seat? Can it be that wolves are plotting with predators?'15 15The phrase is literally 'wolves among the wolves' (vargar með úlfum). Vargr (wolf) was a term applied to dangerous outlaws, who could be hunted down like wolves.

HSK 7. Helgi, disguised as a beggar, undertakes to tempt Queen Olof into the woods, so he can get her in his power:
14. 'Then this treasure will please her,' said the beggar. 'Though I found it, she will think she owns it because it is on her land. Good fortune must not now be turned to bad, so I will not hide this wealth. The queen can decide on my share as she wishes; deciding what will suit me best. But will she take the trouble to come here to get the treasure?'

Some of King Adils' forces had attacked from the rear, and Helgi and his men had found themselves caught as though between hammer and anvil.

HSK 14. King Adils avoids taking sides in the battle between Svipdag and the troublesome berserkers:
30. Svipdag, however, wanted only to ride away, mainly because the king, undecided about whether he wanted Svipdag or the berserkers to win the victory, had not come to the battlefield before the fighting had ended. The whole time the king had watched the contest from the woods and could have joined in whenever he chose. In fact, to the king it would have made no difference if Svipdag had been defeated and lay with his face in the dirt.
