crop seed biology

Prior to joining USask faculty, Dr. Quilichini worked alongside a talented team of researchers at the NRC to produce vast seed genomic resources for key crops and putative ancestral relatives. Transcriptome datasets for Triticum (wheat) grains, Brassica (canola) and legumes (pea, lentil) seeds provide spatially-resolved gene expression data on the embryo, endosperm and seed coat subcompartments (see eFP browser for user-friendly portal). Building upon relationships formed with the agricultural research community in Saskatchewan, we will continue to study the global genetic and metabolic landscape of seeds for species of value to Canadian agriculture.
