Conservation Collaborations

Grassland conservation depends on cooperation among multiple partners. I work closely with the Nature Conservency of Canada (Saskatchewan office), Meewasin Valley Authority, Ministry of Parks Culture and Sport, among others to implement on-the ground grassland conservation in Saskatchewan.

We are currently working to promote the safe use of prescribed fire for grassland conservation. Our most significant accomplishment thus far has been the reintroduction of prescribed fire to the Old Man on His Back Conservation area in south-west Saskatchewan. This project is highlighted in the CBC Nature of Things documentary, Grasslands.

Funding

My research has been supported by many agencies including NSERC, Environment and Climate Change Canada, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, MITACS, the Saskatchwan Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport, the Agriculture Development Fund, the Beef Cattle Research Council, the Saskatchewan Cattlemen's Association, the Alberta Ingenuity Fund, and the Alberta Conservation Association.
