At the top of the current infrastructure wishlist for the Sheldon Lab and other colleagues within the Molecular Design Research Cluster at USask, is a BioTek Cytation 9 Cell Imaging Multimode Reader with attached BioSpa, environmental control, autoscratch wound maker, and microscopy functions. This multifaceted instrumentation can perform high-throughput assessment of many different functions relating to host-pathogen interactions, molecular biology, cell biology, and so forth, including but not limited to:
- Bacterial growth
- Gene expression via fluorescence
- Drug testing
- High resolution imaging for cell biology and host-pathogen interactions
- Multiplate capacity (8 plates can be maintained at the correct environmental conditions and read automatically using the BioSpa)
- Automated cell migration, wound healing and viability assessments
