Carlos Augusto Torres Barragán
PhD Candidate CIIDIR-Oaxaca, Instituto Politécnico NacionalAugusto’s research focuses on the ecological parameters of biodiversity and community-based conservation and management as ways to contribute to biocultural values preservation by working closely with communities to co-produced knowledge and provide feedback to stakeholders. He has worked with NGOs and Indigenous communities in Oaxaca, on projects around biodiversity monitoring, sustainable and friendly-biodiversity productive systems, and development of local technical capabilities.
Currently, Augusto is finishing his Ph.D. at Instituto Politécnico Nacional, CIIDIR- Oaxaca, Mexico; within of the program: “Doctorado en Ciencias en Conservación y Aprovechamiento de Recursos Naturales”. His PhD project is: Analysis of biocultural heritage management of the Mitla-Yagul landscape in Oaxaca, Mexico, and strategies to strengthen social and ecological resilience” (“Análisis del manejo del patrimonio biocultural del Paisaje Mitla-Yagul en Oaxaca, México, y estrategias para fortalecer la resiliencia ecológica-social”).
