Saskatchewan Equity, Equality, and Diversity Laboratory
Our lab explores the impact of stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination on members of marginalized social groups, specifically, sexual and gender minorities, women, and Indigenous Peoples. Critically, we examine how the forces of stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination are perpetuated by dominant majority group members, and how these forces affect minority group members’ life experiences. We also investigate the depictions of minority groups along dimensions of gender, sexual orientation, and ethnicity in different cultural products. To collect our data, we use a variety of methods such as surveys, lab-based and non-lab-based experiments, interviews, and content analyses. Through our research, we hope to continually create awareness about social issues that affect minority groups, address the roles played by majority group members in the marginalization of other persons, and promote social justice.
