We are recruiting a PhD student to work on mycoviruses

The Prager lab at the University of Saskatchewan (www.pragerlab.ca) is looking to recruit a PhD student to study mycoviruses presence in the plant pathogenic fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. The candidate is expected to collect Sclerotinia from fields, extract nucleic acid, perform next generation sequencing from samples and analyze the data for the presence of known and novel viruses.

A qualified candidate must have already received an MSc in a relevant field prior to start. The candidate is expected to have the skills required to work in a molecular biology lab and have knowledge of bioinformatics.

Dr. Prager supervises graduate students in either the Department of Plant Sciences or Department of Biology graduate programs.

This is a fully funded position with a guaranteed stipend.

Please contact Prof. Dr. Sean Prager (sean.prager@usask.ca) or Dr. Dinesh Babu Paudel (Paudel.db@usask.ca) for additional information. Please include a CV and brief description of research experience.

Other Students

Dr. Prager is not currently accepting MSc students.

 General Information

Dr. Prager supervises graduate students for both MSc and PhD in either the Department of Plant Sciences or Department of Biology graduate programs.

The policy of the Department of Plant Sciences is not to accept students unless funding is available for their stipend. Therefore, while we are always willing to consider potential students to join our group, it will be funding limited. However, students with their own funding are welcome and we would be happy to sponser and participate in the preparation of scholarship and fellowship applications.

A list of external awards is available here.

For general information on the graduate program in Plant Sciences, email plsc.gradprogram@usask.ca

For general information on the graduate program in Biology, email biology.dept@usask.ca

Undergraduate Students

We are happy to have undergraduate students join us for their PLSC 492 or 494 projects or for their Biology 380 or 480 projects. If you are interested in doing a project in the lab, contact Dr. Prager.

Postdocs

Occasionally we have funding for postdoctoral students. At the University of Saskatchewan, postdocs are housed within the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. When such funding is available it will be listed on this page.  However, individuals with their own funding are welcome and we would be happy to sponsor and participate in the preparation of fellowship applications or grant applications with targeted funding.
