Geospatial Intelligence for Green Cities (GIG-Cities) Lab
Welcome to the Geospatial Intelligence for Green Cities (GIG-Cities) Lab at the School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS) at the University of Saskatchewan.
Our Research
At the GIG-Cities Lab, our research harnesses geospatial AI and intelligent computing technologies to address urban sustainability challenges, focusing on climate resilience, social equity, and data-driven solutions for creating sustainable cities. We use a range of tools and techniques including geospatial artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, digital twins, IoT networks, UAVs, and LiDAR systems for our research to better understand and improve urban environments. By combining techniques such as spatial optimization, citizen science, and climate modeling, we provide insights to enhance urban planning, improve health and safety, optimize transportation, and design climate-resilient cities. Our work is designed to not only meet today’s urban challenges but also anticipate the needs of future generations. Through our research, we strive to build cities that are not only livable but also thriving, equitable, and environmentally responsible. Ultimately, our goal is to create smarter, healthier, and more sustainable urban spaces for future generations.
