Varuni Jayasooriya, Assistant Professor

Dr. Varuni Jayasooriya is an Assistant Professor at the School of Environment and Sustainability, University of Saskatchewan. She holds a B.Sc. in Engineering from the Department of Earth Resources Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Victoria University, Australia, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Department of Geography, Geomatics, and Environment, University of Toronto.
Her research focuses on data-driven decision-making for sustainable urban planning, urban climates, biometeorology, spatial data science, environmental geography, and green infrastructure. With over 10 years of experience spanning research, teaching, industrial collaboration, and outreach, Dr. Jayasooriya has a strong multidisciplinary background in urban sustainability.
She was recognized as one of the five finalists for the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Young Woman Engineer (YWE) of the Year Award in 2021. Dr. Jayasooriya is also a member of the Canadian Remote Sensing Society and the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing.
