The USask Fruit Program is excited to announce the dates for our 2026 extension events! This year, we’re hosting three fruit‑focused experiences: our Annual Plant Sale, Saskatoon Berry Day, and a hands‑on Budding and Grafting Workshop. We invite all interested individuals to join us and take part in these engaging events.
Originally from Slovenia, Dr. Anže Švara (PhD) had never even heard of Saskatoon before seeing a job opening at the University of Saskatchewan (USask), let alone the tiny purplish berries that the city’s name comes from.
Over 40 people passionate about haskap attended Haskap Days 2025, hosted by the University of Saskatchewan’s Fruit Program.
USask Fruit Program Recruited Four Students
Dr. Bob Bors, former head of the USask fruit breeding program was officially inducted into the Saskatchewan Agricultural Hall of Fame on April 26, 2025.
Dr. Anže Švara joined the department as the new fruit breeder in the fruit breeding program on January 12, 2025.
Boreal Bliss will be available in late 2025 or 2026.
Dr. Bob Bors officially retired from the University in April 2024.
