The Saskatchewan Network Environments for Indigenous Health Research (SK-NEIHR), based at University of Saskatchewan, supports this work through its Community Partnership (CP) and Knowledge Translation (KT) funding programs.
Dr. Robert Henry is the NPI of the Saskatchewan NEIHR (SK-NEIHR). Dr. Henry is Métis from Prince Albert Saskatchewan. He currently holds a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Justice and Wellbeing. In 2025 Dr. Henry, who also leads The National Coordinating Centre of the Network Environments of Indigenous Health Research with support from Dr. Chelsea Gabel, Scientific Director of the Institute of Indigenous Peoples Health (IIPH), received $1.5 million from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Centre for Research on Pandemic Preparedness and Health Emergencies.
The SK-NEIHR provides funds of up to $10,000.00 for First Nations and Métis health research projects in Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan NEIHR First Nations, Métis, and Allied researchers and experts in Indigenous research provide answers to the top questions about the 5 R's of Indigenous research, and about doing research with First Nations and Métis communities in Saskatchewan.
Funded by the Institute of Indigenous Peoples’ Health (IIPH) and given financial support from the 13 institutes that make up the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR), the SK-NEIHR is one of 9 research networks. The NEIHRs, Network Environments for Health Research, are all a part of the NEIHR National Coordinating Centre.
